V-Day mashup mani

I couldn't decide what polish I wanted to wear for Valentine's Day, so I put two different glitters on a fuchsia base. I don't hate it but I'm not sure I love it yet, either - I'll have to see what I think in daylight. Actually I have a LOT of layers here, because I did Nail Nutrition Strength, then I did Glitter-a-Peel, THEN Colorstay basecoat and two coats of Rich Raspberry, THEN In Through the Out Door, which is raspberry-ish and gold glitter, and then Poppy Fields, which is red and a bit of gold glitter in a red jelly base. What's that, 8 coats? I think it came out looking more red than pink, because of the jelly base, but I'm not entirely sure yet. It's definitely a glitterbomb, and definitely seasonally-appropriate, I'm just not sure it's something I'd want to wear any other day of the year.

Added: Here's a picture. In most lights it looks redder than this, though.
Also, since I'm adding things, I just noticed that Serum No 5 has a sale on everything pink, red, black, and white this weekend - so that would include Poppy Fields, presumably. It's announced on their Facebook page but says you don't need a coupon code.

(more under the jump)

I thought about doing a round-up of Valentine's Day manis, because there have been some really cute ones, but then I figured by the time people read this they're probably going to be sick of Valentine's Day and ready to go on to something else, so I decided not to. Or with Valentine's Day being on Friday, do some people go on and have a whole romantic weekend, or something? One day is usually about all I'm interested in. I bought my husband a necklace, a very masculine one - he never wears jewelry but I thought he might like it. He usually buys me roses but I told him roses had gotten too damn expensive and to buy me a plant instead. I like roses but it's kind of like throwing money out the window, you know? (I told him that about a month ago so I'm going to be interested to see if he remembers.) (Added: he did, he brought me a lovely pink cyclamen.)

The next holiday up, if you're somewhere that celebrates it, is Mardi Gras. It's March 2nd or 3rd, I think. Galveston's Mardi Gras goes for two weekends so it starts next weekend; I imagine in New Orleans they started some time ago. But I was thinking I would at least do some manis in Mardi Gras colors, partly just because I like them - green and purple and gold, what's not to like? So I'm sure you will be seeing some more posts on that subject. (And the sun was out today and I did get some nail wheel pictures and such, so I imagine I'll get around to doing something with those in the next week or so, too!)

Oh yeah, so the reason I especially wanted the Nail Nutrition on my nails in the first place was that I had bought some of those nail pod things really cheap from Amazon - these things. If you're interested in buying them, just bear in mind that they don't hold up very well - the top part has disintegrated on several of mine. But they do do the job. I'm undecided about how I feel about soaking my whole fingertip in acetone for several minutes. And they felt really dry when I was done, so I did cuticle oil and Gardener's Hand Therapy and then the Nail Nutrition (and the Glitter-a-Peel, so I wouldn't have to worry about getting this glitterbomb off my nails). I'm not sorry I tried the things but I'm not sure I'll keep on using them, either.
